Racing against time to be fit for the World Cup, Arrascaeta has taken another step in his recovery from a fractured collarbone. The Uruguayan is now having his stitches removed, and Flamengo considers his progress to be positive.

In a statement released on FlamengoTV, the club’s head of medical department, Fernando Sassaki, said the midfielder is pain-free and undergoing full-time physiotherapy. Arrascaeta has been going to Ninho do Urubu daily for treatment.

Flamengo plans a mid-season training camp during the World Cup and is considering trips to South America or Europe.

“His progress has been very positive. The player is already pain-free and doing full-time physiotherapy work. Much of this is due to the athlete’s commitment, his self-care, and the structure at Flamengo,” said the doctor.

“We will repeat the X-ray this week and continue to monitor his progress. Expectations are excellent, especially given the signs he has shown. Clean wound, athlete without pain, and performing movements without any difficulty,” he added.

The injury occurred during Flamengo’s 1-1 draw with Estudiantes in Argentina, in the third round of the Libertadores group stage. The surgery lasted one hour and was performed last week. Arrascaeta suffered the injury in a challenge with Piovi early in the first half and was replaced by Carrascal. The Uruguayan was taken to a hospital in La Plata, where the fracture was confirmed.

The midfielder began his recovery at home with cryotherapy and active intermittent compression. In addition to physiotherapy, he is also using the gym bike at the training center to stay active and maintain his fitness. From the date of the surgery to Uruguay’s World Cup opener, 46 days will have passed.
