Avangard’s general manager Alexei Sopin has confirmed the club’s intention to retain forward Kirill Dolzhenkov, emphasizing a mutual desire to continue their partnership. The 21-year-old joined Avangard in January via a trade with CSKA, signing a contract that runs until May 31.
In 21 appearances for Avangard, including playoff games, Dolzhenkov recorded two assists. “We intend to keep Kirill. He’s a young forward, and the coaching staff wants to gradually integrate him since he wasn’t with us during preseason. I think the coaches will work more closely with him,” Sopin said. “The key is that both sides want this. Kirill also has the ambition to prepare for North America but wants to spend a few more seasons with Avangard first.”
Sopin added that the team plans to involve young prospects in training camp, noting discussions with head coach Guy Boucher about developing talent within the organization. Dolzhenkov was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, selected 109th overall.
