New York Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez left Tuesday’s matchup against the Detroit Tigers in the bottom of the sixth inning after sustaining a right knee injury. The club confirmed that he will undergo imaging on Wednesday to evaluate the extent of the issue.
The injury occurred when Alvarez took a powerful swing on a 2-2 pitch from Burch Smith, fouling it off before immediately showing signs of discomfort, limping and clutching his knee. He exited the game accompanied by trainers, ending his night with a 1-for-2 performance that included a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Luis Torrens stepped in as a pinch hitter and later drew a walk, crossing the plate during the inning.
Through 37 games this season, Alvarez has posted a .241/.317/.393 slash line across 112 at-bats, tallying four home runs, five doubles, and 10 RBIs.
