Robert Kubica (41) has opened up about the immense difficulty of rallying for an asphalt professional in an interview with *Motor Sport Magazine*.
Many Formula 1 drivers seek fresh challenges after leaving the pinnacle of motorsport. Most, out of habit, turn to circuit-based competitions like the 24 Hours of Le Mans, NASCAR, or other series. But a few step out of their comfort zone to tackle rallying – a discipline that, while motorized, is vastly different from the Grand Circus.
That was the case for Polish driver Robert Kubica, who went on to claim a WRC2 title with five victories. He now shares his experience.
“In my mind, I wanted to be able to say I was trying to achieve something even bigger than an F1 world title, so I wouldn’t have time to dwell on the past and the ‘what ifs’,” said Kubica, whose F1 career was cut short by a severe rally crash. “I simply focused on a new challenge. There is nothing more difficult for a circuit driver than trying to compete at the highest level in the WRC. It is a completely different sport,” he asserted.
